Once you've created the separate elements, it's time to combine to them. Blender's particle system allows you to build complex looking assets very quickly by scattering them on other objects. Even animation can be used to add more detail to the particle system.

The video shows some random tricks and that is Ok but not what I hoped for. Particles are fundamental tools in motion graphics and because the usage of the particle system in blender is unconventional some fundamental explanation would help.

*@denis wolff* Make sure your origin point and rotation are set up correctly. It's hard to figure out what exactly is going wrong from your description.
